Geno’s Italian Restaurant is located next to Ferry Pass Baptist Church, across the street from RaceWay gas station on North Davis Highway.
The modest outer appearance of the establishment and empty parking lot had me under the impression that I was visiting a cute abandoned building. A first-time visitor would probably have to check the restaurant sign to make sure that it was the right place.
Upon entering, I faced a statue of a chef wearing an apron with blue and white stripes. Then I saw a glass display counter with Mardi Gras paraphernalia and a variety of sports magazines on top of the exterior.
I wondered why only one other customer was present.
I sat down at a red, white and green checkered table—my eyes wandered and my retinas adjusted themselves to the Italy-inspired atmosphere.
The dimly-lit dining area contained a mixture of brick and wooden walls. Room entrances were arched like bridges. The tight and cozy atmosphere had me under the illusion that I was taking a boat ride along a romantic Venice canal.
The artificial ivy that spiraled along the poles made me feel I was in an outdoor setting.
The menu consisted of a wide variety of pastas, pizzas and deli products. I ordered the pasta with meatballs and lemonade from the lunch special section. My order cost a total of $9.10.
Within 10 minutes, my food was prepared and brought to me. The pasta was neatly placed on the bottom, and two thick meatballs were placed on top of the pasta. The meatballs and the pasta were covered with meat sauce. A tiny bell pepper dressed the side.
The dish was satisfying to my taste buds, but I was disappointed that I only got two meatballs—an extra meatball would have cost $2. However, that was my first time visiting—so don’t take my word. Go there and try something else on the menu!
