Start off your spring break with a small road trip to Sluggo’s vegetarian restaurant and bar. Singer-songwriter Madeline Adams will be performing there on March 7 at 8 p.m.
Hailing from Georgia, Adams has been committed to her craft since age 15. Adams self-released her first album, “Kissing & Dancing,” in 2002, two short years after launching her career.
Obviously a self-starter, Adams has been known to book her own shows and work as a bartender in her hometown of Athens, Ga. Belief in herself paid off when “Kissing & Dancing” was picked up by the punk label, Plan-It-X Records. It is currently in its fifth pressing, thanks to her appeal to a growing, faithful fan base and her exposure touring anywhere they will have her.
Adams joined up with the recording company of Orange Twin, a label based in her hometown. Orange Twin has represented talent like Vic Chesnutt, Neutral Milk Hotel and Elf Power. Recording at producer Matthew Houck’s house in Athens, Adams laid down the tracks for “The Slow Bang” in 2006.
Her crystal-clear voice casts a net filled with emotional maturity and haunting lyrics on her third album, “White Flag,” scheduled to be released on March 10. Adams plans on taking some time off from traveling and touring to renew and focus on her song writing.
She has written on her MySpace page that she loves hearing from her fans. However, she doesn’t want anyone stressing if she doesn’t post while concentrating on her craft.
Sluggo’s supports local talent, so be certain to check out who else will be performing. For further information about Sluggo’s, or upcoming live bands, go to www.sluggos.net.
