Argos softball drops to UAH

The University of West Florida softball team was swept by the University of Alabama-Huntsville, dropping its record to 31-18, 17-5 in the Gulf South Conference.

UWF lost game one 5-3.

The Argonauts scored all three of their runs in the top of the fifth. Sophomore Lindsay Warrenfeltz doubled to center and senior Allison Milliman singled to left to start the inning. Freshman Melanie Reed walked, and Warrenfeltz scored on a wild pitch. Junior Erica Olson hit a single to center field to score Milliman. Junior Meghan Stastook singled in Reed for the Argos final run.

UAH came back in the bottom of the inning and scored five runs.

Stastook and Olson each went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Warrenfeltz went 1-for-2 with a run.

Senior Jackie Moore pitched a complete game for the loss. She allowed five runs on eight hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.

The Argos were defeated in a close game two 5-4.

A home run by Milliman put UWF on the board in the top of the second inning.

A three-run home run by Reed in the fourth inning put the Argos on top, but UAH came to win it.

Junior Amanda Pugh went 6.1 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and striking out two and walking two. Moore went 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.

Reed went 2-for-4 with three RBI's and a run. Milliman went 1-for-3 with a run and a RBI.

An 8-0 game three sealed the sweep for UAH.

Milliman and sophomore Tabitha Hairelson each went 1-for-2 in the loss.

Moore pitched five innings, allowing six runs on five hits with a strikeout and two walks. Pugh gave up two runs on two hits.

The next game for the Argos is in the GSC tournament in Meridian, Miss., April 30 through May 2.
