Last Thursday, a line of University of West Florida students
waited patiently to get their free tickets to see comedian Kyle
Cease, who performed at the UWF Commons.
Cease is the winner of Comedy Central’s 2002 Laugh Riots
Hollywood Competition. According to his Web site, at the age of 18
he became the youngest headlining comedian in the Northwest United
States.
Three years later he won the International Giggles Comedy
Competition and placed in the finals for the Seattle International
Comedy Competition.
Cease was Bogey Lowenstein, a nerdy future MBA, in the 1999 movie,
"10 Things I Hate About You", which starred Julia Stiles and Heath
Ledger.
Cease was not only a hit in the movies, but with UWF audiences as
well.
“He was really funny,” said Kara Chamberlain, a
recreation and resort management major. “He made many jokes
that dealt with our age group and events that happen in our
lives.”
Tanya Kallmann, a sophomore, agreed. “He had a lot of good
jokes and he wasn’t lame,” she said “He had a
wide variety of jokes.”
Chamberlain and Kallman both said that Cease is one of the best
comedians to grace UWF in recent years.
“The time passed quickly,” Chamberlain said.
“None of the jokes were boring and he just kept you
laughing.”
Cease also caught the attention of a few campus visitors such as
Robert Jenkins, a sophomore at Pensacola Junior College. Jenkins
said he thought the show was great.
“PJC does have several good events, but I wish they could get
cool comedians like Kyle,” Jenkins said. “Even though I
had to pay because I am not a UWF student, I still think it was
worth it.”
Cease, whose UWF show was sponsored by Catch a Rising Star, is just
one of the many comedians booked for the upcoming year.
The next comedian CARS has lined up is Meggen Mooney. She will
perform on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 8:30 p.m. in the UWF Commons. This
event is free to all UWF students.
