An inflatable slide and a mechanical surfboard highlighted the activities at the University of West Florida's annual Fall Frenzy.
The event took place last Friday, Oct. 29, at the Carson Tennis Complex.
“This was a wonderful turnout,” said Todd Caraway, University Commons Student Activity member.
The event featured free food, games, music and prizes. Prizes ranged from DVDs to Target gift cards.
Fall Frenzy allows clubs and organizations to set up booths and distribute information about their organization to students.
The event, sponsored by UCSA, Recreation, Athletics and the Department of Housing and Residence Life, was moved from September to October because of Hurricane Ivan.
This is the first year the event has been held this late in the semester, yet many students didn’t seem to notice a difference.
“The post-Ivan Fall Frenzy was the best I have ever been to,” said Jason Williams, senior.
Other students were impressed with the event's turnout.
“I think it’s great to see so many people out here supporting their school,” said Jerome Cavanagh, UWF golf team member. “The music and the free food is a great incentive for coming as well.”
Club organizations such as Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society were out to attract new members who might not have heard of them.
“I don’t think we get to promote enough for our club,” said Carol Valdivia, Gamma Beta Phi member. “Here we get to talk to many students who don’t even realize that they are eligible to be in the honors program.”
The Alpha Epsilon Delta health club caters to students entering the health field. The organization was out trying to attract students interested in pre-med or in any type of medical study.
“The club hosts a lot of speakers and involves a lot of volunteer work,” said Angelina Sansone, Alpha Epsilon Delta member. “The work pays off because this club can actually help get you into medical school.”
More than 15 different clubs and organizations were on hand at the event to give out pamphlets, t-shirts, pens and candy.
“I think it’s cool we could get out here and do this after the hurricane,” said C.J. Walron, Alpha Epsilon Delta member. “The event turned out wonderful, and the activities were a lot of fun, especially the slide.”
