UWF dominates GSC foes

Argonauts Dominate Argonaut Invitational

Eight University of West Florida runners finished the Argonaut Invitational in the top ten at the Argonaut Invitational 8K race. The field included West Florida and Gulf South Conference rivals Valdosta State University and the University of West Alabama. West Florida's Michael Padilla scored the best overall time of 27:31. The Argos finished in first place with 18 points to Valdosta State's 70 points and West Alabama's 101.

UWF's Caleb Carmichael finished second with a time of 28:03.

Valdosta State's Andy Minnicks recorded the Blazers top time at 29:18 for ninth. Thirty-three runners competed in the race. West Florida improves their 2005 record to 3-0.

The team is on the road next weekend for the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10.

UWF Defeats Valdosta

Valdosta State University runner Melissa Daugherty recorded the top individual time in the Argonaut Invitational 5K race, however UWF outmatched VSU overall by capturing second through seventh place in the field of 19 runners. West Florida scored 20 points to Valdosta State's 41.

Daugherty finished with a time of 20:49. West Florida's Nicole Stanley finished second at 20:58. Dawn Kane was third with a time of 21:14. Diana Sitar followed in fourth at 21:49. Naomi Evangelista was fifth at 21:56, and Kim Gallagher landed in sixth at 22:08. Margaret Harder rounded out UWF's top ten finishers in seventh place at 22:09.

West Florida improves to 2-0 on the 2005 season. Next Saturday, Sept. 10, they travel to the Alabama-Huntsville Charger Invitational.
