Women's soccer shuts out Eckerd

The University of West Florida jumped all over Eckerd College in the opening minutes of their home opener Sunday afternoon. West Florida scored three times in the first seven minutes, en route to an easy 9-0 win over the Tritons.

West Florida led 6-0 at the half. They had 21 shots on goal, and 39 overall. The Tritons managed just one shot on goal, and three total. Paty Toledo's two goals and an assist led West Florida. Brianna Oeser scored twice as well. Mauricia Nicholson, Sheka Codner, Marcela Franco, CiCi Marrero, and Valerie Noppinger each scored a goal apiece. Audia Sullivan, Kellean St. Clair, and Toledo recorded assists. Oeser and Noppinger scored on penalty kicks.

Codner put the Argos on the board first just over a minute into the contest. Toledo added a pair of goals 56 seconds apart to give UWF the comfortable lead. West Florida improves to 2-0-1 overall, while Eckerd drops to 0-4.

The Argos travel to Winter Park, Fla. next Friday for a 4:00 start against Rollins College.

 

Marrero earns GSC defender of the week

For the third time in her career, defender CiCi Marrero was named the Gulf South Conference Defender of the Week.  Marrero received the honor following West Florida's dominating shutout win over Eckerd College on Sunday, 9-0.
