After helping to lead West Florida to a 1-1 record last week against two of the top teams in the Gulf South Conference, Naiara Fernandes was named the GSC East Division Defensive Player of the Week.

This is the first GSC weekly honor for Fernandes. In a losing effort against sixth ranked North Alabama, Fernandes collected 24 digs and four blocks. The following day Fernandes tallied 12 digs and two blocks against Alabama-Huntsville, as the Argonauts erased a 2-1 deficit for a win over the Lady Chargers in five games.

Fernandes is the first West Florida volleyball player to win the weekly award this season.
