What do Carmen Electra, aerobic workouts and stripping all have in common?
They all are incorporated into a five-part series, called Stripaerobics, that offers women a unique way to work out and feel the burn.
Electra created the exercise collection with the help of fitness professionals and dance choreographer Robin Antin. Electra and Antin worked together to create the Stripaerobic series that takes viewers from basic stripping techniques to lap dances and hip-hop routines. Antin also has choreographed for other celebrities, such as Pink, Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera.
As a person progresses through the discs, the workout routines become more advanced. All of the discs provide step-by-step routines that help increase the heart rate.
"I really didn't think it would be that hard when I first bought the DVDs," said Katisha Menke, a recent first-time user of the series. "It really does give you a good workout, and I've actually learned how to dance better, too."
According to the Official Stripaerobic Web site, the goal of the series is to help women target their problem areas while building up confidence and working toward a dancer's body.
"I think Stripaerobics is a great way for women of all ages, shapes and sizes to feel sexy and tone up," said Marissa Packard, an organizational communication major. "As we all know, it is not as much how you look, but rather, how you feel. What better way to gain confidence than through learning to be sexy."
Disc 1, titled "Aerobic Striptease," shows women some basic techniques with a warm-up session and two dance routines.
"Fit to Strip" is Disc 2 and features celebrity fitness trainer Michael Carson.Disc 2 is more aerobic-based and focuses on strengthening and toning the body.
In Disc 3, the dance routines become more advanced and technical as steps are added on to the ones learned in Discs 1 and 2. "Advanced Aerobic Striptease" also features a lap dance routine along with a separate dance routine that is designed to help burn fat and calories.
Disc 4, "The Lap Dance," concentrates on several high-energy lap dance routines, while Disc 5, "Hip-Hop," focuses on hip-hop routines that are choreographed to get the heart pumping.
Each disc features added bonuses to make the experience more enjoyable. There are a variety of music options for the viewer to choose from and a "heads-up" display mode that allows a person to watch the routine from above to get a different angle of the workout steps.
