Nationally known motivational speaker Joe Martin is set to speak about leadership skills Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. at the University of West Florida's Commons Auditorium.

Martin will present "Leadership is Everyone's Business." The activities for the day are headed by the Voyages Leadership Program, said Lusharon Wiley, interim dean of students.

"The UWF Voyages Leadership Program is a two-year leadership enhancement program designed to provide learning experiences that encourage personal, academic and service-centered leadership opportunities," according to a UWF news release. "The program is open to undergraduate students with less than 45 semester hours who are currently enrolled at UWF."

Martin is the founder and president of RealWorld University, an award-winning college success Web site designed to help students meet the professional challenges of college and life. Martin is a professor, author and educational consultant, and he has had the honor of being the youngest professor at his institution to be nominated twice for the "Distinguished Teacher's Award," according to Martin's biography posted on the RealWorld University Web Site.

He has helped thousands of students and staff members throughout the nation achieve more, live and serve more passionately, and maximize their living potential, the Web site said.

On Friday, Martin will be back on familiar territory.

"Joe earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from UWF," Wiley said. "He also taught in the Communication Arts department."

Martin has addressed more than 450 organizations, associations, businesses, colleges and universities, helping hundreds of thousands of students and staff members across the country achieve more, live and serve more passionately, and maximize their leadership potential, according to the Web Site.

Martin was recognized nationally as one of "America's Top Motivational Professors." In 1999, the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities selected Martin as its national "College Speaker of the Year," the Web site said.

"His overall presentation is one of dynamism and power," Wiley said. "He challenges the listener to live life with passion."
