Despite a combined 44 shots, third-ranked West Florida and 24th ranked Barry only managed one goal apiece as the Argonauts and Buccaneers finished with a 1-1 tie on Sunday at the UWF Soccer Complex.

With the tie, West Florida extended their unbeaten streak to 19. However, their 30-match home winning streak comes to an end. Ironically, Barry was the last team to either defeat or tie West Florida at home on Nov. 7, 2001. West Florida's record now stands at 14-0-2, while Barry's record is 11-2-2.

Both teams scored their goal in the first half. In the 16th minute, Brianna Oeser scored her 16th goal of the season on a header off of a free kick from CiCi Marrero. With the goal, Oeser tied Brook Pace's record of 110 career points. Barry answered in the 31st minute. After a Buccaneer shot was blocked, Emelie Karlsson collected the loose ball and netted a goal past Argonaut goalkeeper Klara Vrbova to tie the game at 1-1. It was only the fifth goal allowed by Vrbova in over 1300 minutes of action this season.

Both teams had scoring chances, but both defenses withstood the offensive attacks. Barry totaled 15 shots, yet only two shots were on goal. One of the

Buccaneer's best chances came on a shot by Elisa Pirinen in the 27th minute.

Vrbova was caught out of position; however, defender Shante Codner was

positioned in front of the net to deflect the shot. West Florida peppered Barry goalkeeper Kelly Tryson with 29 shots, including 14 shots on goal.

Tryson collected 13 saves, including several saves while being surrounded by

Argonaut players. Marcela Franco had a chance to win the game in the first overtime period, but Tryson stopped her point-blank shot.

On Friday, West Florida won their 30th consecutive home game by blasting the North Alabama Lions, 6-1. West Florida ran away with it early, scoring three times in the game's opening eight minutes. Kellean St. Clair scored the first of her two goals at the 2:42 mark assisted by Audia Sullivan. Mauricia Nicholson scored her 12th goal of the season at 6:35, on an assist from Paty Toledo. Brianna Oeser scored on a cross pass from Brandi Adams at 7:31. St. Clair scored again on a sliding kick from the right side on a pass from Nicholson at 12:34, giving the Argos a 4-0 lead at the half.

Oeser scored her 15th goal of the season unassisted 57:13. Sullivan scored at 72:41 on a Sarah Hughes pass. North Alabama got on the scoreboard on an Emily Cotham goal unassisted at 87:10.

West Florida dominated play from start to finish, out shooting UNA, 38-5 and 22-2 in shots-on-goal. North Alabama goalkeeper Melanie Saegert collected 16 saves.

West Florida improved their conference record to 7-0. North Alabama is now 7-7 overall (2-4 GSC).

West Florida returns to Gulf South Conference action against Delta State

University on Fri., Oct. 21. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 22, at 2:30 p.m. the women will close out their home regular season with a game against the University of Montevallo. Seniors will be honored at the game.
