Men defeat William Carey for second consecutive shutout

Ryan Teague's goal in the 11th minute was all the offense the Argonauts needed in a 1-0 win over non-conference opponent William Carey Friday night during Homecoming at the UWF Soccer Complex. The Argonauts also posted their second consecutive shutout. West Florida improves to 7-5-1 with the win. William Carey falls to 5-3.
Teague took a Keith Savage pass from the left side and beat Crusader goalkeeper Florent Sourice to give West Florida the 1-0 lead. The West Florida defense controlled the rest of the game as the Argonauts recorded their fourth shutout of the season. West Florida outshot William Carey 18-7, and the Crusaders only managed two shots on goal. Matt Gascoigne played the first 12 minutes in net. Juan Garcia guarded the net over the next 78 minutes to earn his first career Argonaut victory.
West Florida continues its home stand Oct. 21, when the Argonauts will host Gulf South Conference opponent Delta State University at 5 p.m. On Oct. 22, they will host GSC rival the University of Montevallo at 5 p.m.
