Third-ranked UWF wins on the road

Although their shutout streak came to an end at Lincoln Memorial University Friday afternoon, the University of West Florida women's soccer team continued their win streak with a 3-1 win. UWF restarted the shutout streak with a 2-0 win over the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday.West Florida and Huntsville played a scoreless first half, but Brandi Adams and Paty Toledo scored second half goals to lift third-ranked West Florida to a 2-0 triumph. The win was the Argonauts 10th shutout of the season. It also marks the sixth time in the last 10 seasons that West Florida has recorded at least 10 shutouts in a season. West Florida improved to 12-0-1, (5-0 in the Gulf South Conference). Alabama-Huntsville fell to 5-6, (2-2 GSC).Despite outshooting Alabama-Huntsville 14-3 in the first half, the Argonauts were unable to score. "Alabama-Huntsville defended well and worked hard," said West Florida head coach Joe Bartlinski. "We used some patience and had some opportunities to score. We were attacking more than we were defending and it seemed like a matter of time before we would score."Adams opened the scoring in the 58th minute by scoring on a header off of a feed from Marcela Franco. Four minutes later, Toledo followed up her own shot by netting a goal past Lady Charger goalkeeper Sarah Sollie to give West Florida the victory at 2-0.West Florida out-shot Alabama-Huntsville 31-12, including a 13-8 advantage in shots on goal. The Argonauts held a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks. Klara Vrbova stopped all eight Lady Charger shots on goal for her 12th victory of the season."I was very pleased with our effort to go on the road and pick up two hard-fought wins this weekend," said Bartlinski. "It is not easy to be consistent all season and do the work necessary to win."West Florida will put their 16-match unbeaten streak (dating back to last season) on the line this Friday at Homecoming against the University of North Alabama. The match will begin at 5:00 p.m.
UWF beats LMU 3-1
In a battle between West Florida's NCAA Division II second-ranked defense and Lincoln Memorial's second-ranked offense, the Argonauts prevailed 3-1.West Florida saw their seven-game shutout streak snap at the 5:39 mark when Danielle Dos Santos put the Railsplitters ahead. The Argos' third-ranked offense went to work. Brianna Oeser scored her 13th goal of the season off a Brandi Adams corner kick. UWF took the lead for good at 31:02 when Kellean St. Clair scored on a one-on-one play, giving West Florida a 2-1-halftime lead."They had some pop going forward, but we got our focus back," said UWF head coach Joe Bartlinski. "When we started attacking, we didn't have to defend as much."The Argos scored again in the second half when Paty Toledo scored on a chip shot, assisted by St. Clair. West Florida outshot LMU, 27-11 and 11-4 in shots-on-goal. The Argonauts also tallied 14 corner kicks to LMU's four. Argos goal keeper Klara Vrbova collected three saves, while Splitters keeper Stephanie Kwoka had seven saves.The loss ended an LMU eight-game win streak. Their only loss came to nationally ranked Tampa, who tied UWF in the season opener. The Argos are 10-2-1 all-time against LMU.
