Voyager brings home 4 awards

Reporters and editors of The Voyager received top awards in competition with 61 other Southern schools in Birmingham, Ala. Jan. 26.
The Voyager won first place for graphics and seventh place for feature writing in the Southeast Journalism Conference's "Best in the South" annual competition held at Samford University.
Marcus Blakely, the newspaper's graphics editor, won the top award for graphic design, and staff reporter Austin Holt was recognized for his feature writing.
While at the SEJC event, Voyager staffers attended training workshops and also attended a special on-site competition with other students from across the Southeast.
Voyager Arts and Entertainment Editor Jessica Coleman won first place award for news writing, and News Editor Jamie Secola won first place for copyediting.
The competition was judged by officials from USA Today and other national publications and broadcast companies.
The SEJC has provided workshops, training seminars and regional competitions for student reporters, editors and advisers for 20 years.
