The University of West Florida men's and women's basketball team produced a record 14 All-Academic selections for winter sports. There were three First Team and two Honor Roll selections from the men's team, and the women's team produced nine selections, which was the most of any men's or women's winter sports team in the Gulf South Conference.
March is over, and now the real brackets are being filled out. Granted, the NBA Playoffs don't provide the "Cinderellas" that the NCAA Tournament is famous for. But stability is a good thing. Looking back on history, there have only been a handful of times that the "better" team didn't win the seven-game series.
Former Argonaut and Gulf South Conference standout Keith Savage, had an assist in his first start as professional soccer player. His team, Chivas USA fell short after mounting spirited second-half comeback. Chivas USA came into Saturday's match against Columbus having never lost in Crew Stadium, and despite going down by two goals midway through the second half, that record seemed to still be intact when the visitors stormed back to tie the game at 3-3.
