MERS seeks to end shark finning

The Marine Ecology Research Society, a student research and outreach organization at UWF, is raising awareness on issues of conservation at their fall fundraising event.

The event, Conservation Night, will be held Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in Bldg. 58A, Room 101.

The goal is to raise awareness of a controversial fishing practice that takes place all over the world: shark finning.

Conservation Night is open to all students and guests who wish to broaden their knowledge on these issues and discuss ways we can all help.

Admission is free, although donations are accepted, and pizza will be available for $1 per slice. All money collected at the event will be donated directly to shark conservation.

University welcomes National Grammar Day

This year, the Writing Lab has decided to participate in National Grammar Day, which is Thursday, March 4. The Writing Lab graduate assistant responsible for public relations, Savanna Richter, is planning a one-day activity for National Grammar Day. The Writing Lab will publicize through the media that on March 4, everyone should pay close attention to grammar, punctuation, spelling and word choice that they hear and see in their professional and personal environments; on television, radio, and other electronic mediums; and on signs, billboards, fliers, and other print mediums. Anyone, whether from the university community or the surrounding local communities, who finds an error in grammar or general language use should bring in the error to the UWF Writing Lab in Building 51, Room 157 at UWF’s main campus.
