This semester, the University of West Florida community has undergone changes and challenges.
We’ve seen a record-breaking crop of freshmen, which has strained parking facilities campus-wide; a manhunt on campus that included a test of the lockdown procedures; a Student Access Information Lab sit-in and other examples of student activism, including protests in downtown Pensacola and students marching in Washington for gay rights; a deadlock between the United Faculty of Florida and the UWF administration; a closed campus for a hurricane that wasn’t; and much more.
The Voyager has gone through some changes as well, adding a videographer and changing the design and focus of the paper.
The holiday season — and a nice little break from classes — is fast approaching, and students, faculty and staff will have a few weeks to destress, detox and watch a lot of TV.
This is our chance to get ready for the next year, and, for some of us, to enjoy our last semester before we venture out into the world as graduates. Enjoy it while it lasts.
This coming semester will also bring some exciting new developments.
There’s a new health center in the works, which will double the availability of treatment rooms, and there’s rumor of a possible new student fee meant to improve the facilities available to students that needs consideration.
And we’re not going anywhere. We’ll have a new crew of student reporters, some new faces on the editorial staff and the same commitment to bringing the campus community reliable, insightful news.
